First "International Cell and Gene Therapy Congress" will be hosted by Motamed Cancer Institute

According to the public relations report of MCI, Professor Ardeshir Ghavamzadeh, the chairman of the first International Congress of Cell and Gene Therapy, explained in this regard: Today, cancer treatment with methods such as chemotherapy alone is not quite efficient and its effectiveness is very limited. Unfortunately, the cost of cancer drugs has also increased recently; therefore, the price of a single injectable doze might exceed thousands dollars and also a course of treatment may cost similarly. These conditions necessitate us to go for alternative and more effective treatments.
Referring to the country's scientific advances in this field, he added: Treatments such as cell therapy and gene therapy are developing rapidly in the world, and hopefully, we are among the pioneering countries in this area. Our main goal is to take these treatments from the research stage to the industrial stage, so that they are available to the public and reduce the burden of heavy chemotherapy costs.
Professor. Ghavamzadeh also pointed out the great potential of artificial intelligence in the development of this field and said: "One of our long-term goals is to use new technologies, including AI, to design more accurately treatment processes, plan and implement treatments more effectively. This can play a very effective role in improving the quality of treatment."
He also announced the holding of a scientific festival along with the congress on the sidelines of this congress, the fifth festival titled "Professor Ardeshir Ghavamzadeh's award" will be held, which aims to promote this new knowledge, accelerate industrialization, and familiarize researchers and students in this field. The upcoming congress will be held with the participation of professors, researchers, students, experts, residents, and those interested in medical sciences and modern research.
Professor. Ghavamzadeh, the faculty of MCI also emphasized: "We invite all specialists, students, and interested parties to participate in this event. This congress can pave the way for joint research projects and future collaborations between scientific centers in the country and abroad."
This event will feature specialists from various fields including hematology, cardiology, pulmonology, orthopedics, and rheumatology. Ghavamzadeh explained: Cell therapy is used not only in the treatment of malignant and non-malignant cancers, but also in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, and even for improving the quality of life of patients. Although our focus is on the treatment of difficult-to-treat diseases, there are much broader therapeutic potentials in this field.
One of the key speakers of this congress will be Professor Anna Sureda, President of the European Society for Stem Cell Transplantation (EBMT), who will attend and deliver a speech at this event.
Finally, Dr. Ghavamzadeh, pointing out that the Motamed Cancer Institute is a member of EBMT, and said: This membership is an effective step towards achieving scientific goals and strengthening international research activities.
